I work in medical devices and we mostly try to have a six sigma process, which means the target is to have only 3.4 defects per million units made. There is no such thing as a perfect process or perfect inspection that catches 100% of defects.
I know the quality controls at Victorinox are spectacular, but with nothing being 100% you are guaranteed to have some errors escape your control… especially when you make so many items.
That being said, I think my rarest knife is not a Space Shuttle, or a limited edition, or an early Soldiers knife… but this tang stamp error.
When I have a bad day at work and we’re dealing with an escape or issue, it’s a reminder that nothing is ever 100% and we are all only human. It’s probably the most meaningful knife in my collection, outside of the Huntsman my father gave to me when I was young.
