First, I have to give a heartfelt thanks to the U.S. service center. I sent them three sentimental items and they went above and beyond in handling them.
The first was a Classic SD my dad has owned for many years. It came back with a new blade, scale tools, and scales. My dad is getting older and is starting to will some of his keepsakes to us boys. This one will go to my younger brother, and will be his first 58mm Victorinox.
More sentimental is a 91mm Spartan I sent in. This was a gift to my dad from his brother, now deceased, around 30 years ago. Look at the wear on those two blades! It came back with two new blades, a new can opener, new scales, and new scale tools. At my request, and at a small extra expense, the service center was kind enough to swap the corkscrew out for a Philips. My older brother will inherit this knife, and the Spartan-turned-Tinker will be added to his collection with his Super Tinker and Deluxe Tinker.
And finally, my first pocket knife! My dad casually handed an 84mm Golfer down to me probably 28 years ago. He had purchased it when a local sporting goods store opened in 1986, and the proof marks seem to date it as manufactured near that year. He used it at work and on the ranch, and then handed it down to me. As my first and, for a long time, only knife, it saw extensive use through my childhood. It came back from the service center with new scales, new scale tools, a new blade, a new and interestingly black scissor spring, and, at my request after paying a small surcharge, a Philips in place of the corkscrew. It seems this configuration in a 2-layer 84mm has never been commercially offered by Victorinox, and I am ecstatic because it’s such a great toolset! I think I’m going to call it the Victorinox Farm Boy, and it could be the only of its type made 100% by Victorinox (although this community might swiftly prove this statement wrong!) It will be a great knife for the 5th pocket of my jeans, and certainly is NOT going into storage.
