I’ve managed to find a few old posts on message boards that listed the knives that were going to be retired for the coming year. I keep those for reference but I only have lists for maybe 3 years. A yearly dealer list would be good enough really in a lot of cases just to start creating a list.
Are knives discontinued every year or do they tend to happen in larger batches every few years?
Is there any reference resource or list that shows this information? SAKwiki is really incomplete when it comes to this. Date of introduction would also be nice to have. I realize some models reappear for short runs but those production runs could also be noted. Knives linger often for years on store shelves so the actual end date might be hard to recognize but Victorinox would know the last date these were manufactured.
I guess I’m probably referring to knives with the plastic scales. 91mm, 84mm, etc. I may be wrong but I think there might be more information and motivation to catalog this type of data for much older knives.
I know that’s a lot of knives but I’m not looking for anything more than a list with the name, model #, in production, out of production. That’s it. I’m not looking to muddy the waters with any other information. I don’t need pictures or lists of tool sets even.
I think this information must be out there somewhere. I can’t be the only one looking for this data.
