WilliamR The price is set by Victorinox. This is a new knife, so you won't find it discounted on Amazon for a while. Moreover, the Companion comes with plus scales and a pen, so you can't really compare it to the Super Tinker or Climber (It is basically a Climber with a pen).
I do agree though that VX pricing doesn't really make sense to me. I've said this before. Trying to find the logic behind it is futile.
Unlike the Compact, the Companion doesn't come with the pin (which requires a human to insert) or the mini screwdriver, and it comes with the regular hook (no file). So the higher than expected price is a bit hard to explain. 🤷🏻♂️
