I'm just flabbergasted by the rather, let me say 'unconventional idea' of refusing a second edition just because a few got resold.
Come on guys, we're discussing the resale of three pocket knives, maybe a few more in the near future and probably most in the far away future! How important can this be???
Victorinox produces millions of pocket knives each year and a few thousand limited editions. The people at Vic know that many of the limited editions will be resold most of the time at a much higher price. Probably it is a part of Vic's marketing strategy!! Just as Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet and some others do with their high end watches.
BTW: You think while you have a Rolex, you're wearing something special? No way, because Rolex in 2024 sold about 1.17 million watches, making it the most sold watch in the luxury market, with a market share of 32 %. Rolex's marketing strategy is indeed that you can only buy at the retailer if you already did buy some expensive juwelery or watches from that retailer. And then, maybe, you are allowed to buy a Rolex watch. I think that's a firm middle finger from Rolex to customers, and I do not understand why people are still willing to be humiliated in that way in order to get their watches. Meanwhile Rolex knows many of these watches are immidiately being resold for higher prices. That's marketing strategy! (However the customers of the luxury watch market now switch to cheaper brands.)
