I occasionally travel with a horse trailer. Filled of course with a horse. My emergency tool was an old Spyderco Rescue Sheepfoot, but with green slabs. That's not the best color! Anyway, I had to use my knife once when a colt (a young horse) strangled itself with the lead rope during the ride home. This colt made a lot of noise and suddenly there was silence. Immediately I knew something was wrong. I stopped the car, grabbed my rescue knife and opened the trailer door. The colt was hanging on the lead rope and so I cut the rope and the colt was free. It saved his life. I was lucky to have my Spiderco rescue with me. Unfortunately a short time ago it was lost.
BTW: Freeing a struggling and kicking horse is a very dangerous thing to do.
Now I am looking for a substitute for my lost Spyderco. In my opinion a modified VX Parachute knife would be ideal. Its blade is not a knife, but a pure belt cutting tool. It can not be considered as a weapon. There is only one OHO so you can not accidentally open the wrong blade. The modification would be adding a glass breaker, and replacing the Philips screw driver by a hook (for grabbing and pulling things away), although the standard SC is still useful for untying knots. And also replacing the green slabs with the signal yellow ones.

In my country each year dozens of people drown while being in their cars. Many roads follow along canals and muddy drainage ditches. Many cars wind up upside down with no room to open the doors because of the narrow water filled ditch. Most are only 1-2 meters deep and 2-3 meters wide, but they are deadly traps. Only way out is via the back window. Without an escape tool you have zero chance of survival; and even with an escape tool you need a miracle.
