Today I purchased a new knife that was kind of a surprise. Nothing I was looking for. In fact I have to look at the box to see what model it is. It's a RangerGrip 71 Gardener.
This knife was discontinued a couple of years ago so that always gets my interest. I see it as a useful tool that I've never actually seen in person. While it's called a Gardener I think it's really useful for other things. The shears work really well as normal large scissors but they're also up to tougher tasks. I make a lot of my own gaskets for engines, differentials, etc. The material I'm cutting goes from a heavy cardboard to neoprene rubber. I've tested them out and these offer a lot of control while doing that kind of cutting.
I can think of other jobs these would be perfect for too. Cutting foam for cushions, cutting nylon webbing, cutting leather and hides, etc. I purchase them from a Canadian retailer selling a few other discontinued Victorinox knife models. Very cheap too so how could I say no.
The saw is a really useful size too and the locking blade is the first one I've owned of this design with the button. It works really well.
For now I'm going to keep it in the box until I have a task that requires this type of tool.
