I don’t really agree with the old idea that women need a special dainty small knife with “feminine” colour scales.
In fact that would be looked at as a real insult here. If I were to ever say something like that I’d get my ass kicked by just about every woman I know. Maybe that’s just a Canadian thing I don’t know? That view of women mostly died out with the Boomer generation here. Maybe it’s also just because my world has been filled with strong women all my life? The ones I’ve known through my work life as a first responder, firefighter, mechanic, etc. Even all of my wife’s friends have several horses in their yards that they look after rain or shine or in -20 deg weather. They are throwing hay bales, fixing fences, cleaning stalls, etc. Even my daughter in law is a full-time paramedic with the Ambulance service here and a volunteer firefighter. All solid people you can count on to help you no matter what. Better than a lot of the guys I know even. My wife is a nurse now but was a full time professional horse farrier for many years now she just shoes her own horses. All these women would change their own tires if they have to.
I gave my wife a 58mm knife as a gift earlier this year and all she said was it looked cute. She wants the RangerGrip knives I’ve recently picked up and commented to her that I think they are too big for me to get much use out of. She has also been throwing knives and tomahawks for years as a hobby. She’s the one with the knife collection too. I have zero interest in any of her knives. She has some crazy looking stuff too.
If a knife was marketed as a “feminine” or “women’s” knife it would probably become news fast and the company boycotted. I’m not kidding either.
I’m the guy who also owns a NY Companion and actually really likes the scales.
I’m 100% behind Victorinox offering more colour options though. Conventional and unconventional. I think that’s where the future is.
This thread is a perfect example of how different the markets are around the world and what Victorinox is up against.
