Scissors are stuck

I got a new Alox pocket knife, but I have a problem with the scissors sticking. That means when I press them together, they won't open again. I've had this problem with other pocket knives before, but now that it's happening with a brand new one, I'm really noticing it. There are also posts about this on Reddit. Just Google "Victorinox scissors sticking". Do you have the same problem?

Elsinox Meinst Du die Schere vom Spirit? Die ist ja vom Prinzip her wie die Delemont-Scheren konstruiert - wenn ich mich nicht irre. Also da gefällt mir vom Handling her die ganz „normale“ Schere am großen Swiss Tool wesentlich besser. Ich mag die kurze Schneidlänge am Spirit nicht. Vielleicht bin ich auch einfach die klassische Vic-Schere gewohnt. Ich finde sie ist unübertroffen.

The SwissTool Spirit scissors are not like Wenger's… they're much better. They don't move when you use them, and they don't have serrations. But I agree with everything else you said. They don't even come close to the normal Victorinox scissors.

Probleme hatte ich nur bei den Victorinox Scheren die geschraubt waren. Das war echt nervig weil sich die Schraube oft gelöst hat und dann die Schere nicht mehr geschnitten hat. Bei genieteten Scheren hatte ich noch nie Probleme. Ich habe meine Scheren noch nie geölt. Früher haben Scheren keine Führung der Feder gehabt da kam es manchmal vor das sie heraus gesprungen ist. Die Wenger Scheren und die des Swiss Tool Spirit sind nicht so meins weil sich immer beide Teile bewegen und dadurch ein preziser Schnitt schwieriger ist. Ich kann auch keine Vorteile der Micro Verzahnung von Wenger Scheren erkennen.

Agree… except like I said I'm my previous message, SwissTool scissors don't move like Wenger's. The design is different and superior. But they're still inferior to the normal scissors.

Lucius513 Das stimmt was Du schreibst - ich habe beide Scheren gestern Abend noch verglichen. Vom Konstruktionsprinzip ähnlich, aber im Feintuning doch unterschiedlich…

I've used hundreds of Victorinox knives over the years, but I've never ever had a problem like that with any of the scissors. Maybe it's because I'm not a heavy user. I never cut very tough material with the scissors.

While SwissTool scissors are better than Wenger's, I still don't want them on the 91mm and 93mm knives. For EDC, the normal scissors are in a different league.

I get what you're saying, but I think we're looking at things from very different points of view. For me, I want the best functioning scissors for most EDC tasks. I'm not thinking about my knives in a hundred years.

You, on the other hand, collect vintage knives and value their robustness. The scissors you prefer will definitely last longer than the ones I like, but what's the point of having them if they can't be used?

I've seen Swiza's scissors in pictures, but I've never used them. They look better for cutting paper or sheets in general, but again, they wouldn't work for me. I use the scissors on my SAK to cut my fingernails, for example. None of the other ones can do that.

Standard Victorinox scissors are irreplaceable.

Ich glaube der entscheidende Punkt ist, dass die Allermeisten hier mit der klassischen Victorinox-Schere „sozialisiert“ worden sind - sie ist derart oft in Gebrauch und versagt wirklich nie (!) ihren Dienst, dass sie schon fast ein Teil unserer Hand geworden ist 😉.

benny wie gesagt, ich öle die gar nicht, allerdings kenne ich das Problem so auch nicht. Nach einmaligen Reinigen war es meistens auch schon weg. Die Frage ist nun, ob die Schere evtl zu stark vernietet wurde und von daher kleine Ölmengen zum Verkleben ausreichen…

Und zur allgemeinen Diskussion bzgl der Schere am Swisstool: diese haben die gleiche Schere wie die SAK's, also mit Feder. Das Spirit hat die andere…

Ich finde auch die Schere am SwissTool Spirit richtig gut, da sie eine stabilere Feder hat. Einziges Manko (meiner Meinung nach): die Schneiden (Schenkel) sind zu kurz und vorne nicht spitz genug.

Es geht mir um die Konstruktion. Tatsächlich finde ich die Scherenschenkel auch etwas zu kurz, nur das könnte man ja einfach ändern, wie die Verzahnung.

Es ist sicher so, dass man sich an die Victorinox Schere gewohnt ist. Die SWIZA Schere hat eine ganz andere Handhabe. Zu Beginn fand ich es sehr umständlich, aber als ich denn Dreh raushatte, funktionierte sie für mich super.

benny An sich sind die Vic Scheren (58, 91, 93, 111mm) perfekt fürs täglichen Gebrauch. Aber ich erkenne was gemeint wird, nämlich das „hängen bleiben“ und nicht durch Federdruck öffnen der Schere. Das habe ich selber auch bei neuen Messer schon erfahren.

Wenn mann die Schere im geöffneten Zustand gut anschaut sieht mann das die beiden Teile durch eine kleine Biegung immer Kontakt auf die schneidekante haben; im geschlossenen Zustand ist diese Druck meines Erachtens größer als der öffnungskraft des Federns.

Selber biegen um sie leichtgängiger zu machen würde ich nicht machen da die Schere dann nicht sauber mehr schneidet. Selber „helfe“ ich mit dem Daumen die Schere wieder zu öffnen als diese zubleibt.

MHoekert Danke für die Erklärung. Das hatte ich noch gar nicht bedacht, dass die Scherenflügel ja engen Kontakt brauchen.

Mit meiner Schere bin ich von zufrieden, nach der ganzen Pflege gestern. Und wenn sie wieder klemmt, weiß ich jetzt genau was zu tun ist.

benny I would have to recommend that you don’t use WD40. It works good to disperse water or occasionally for helping to loosen stuck bolts but that’s it. It isn’t really a lubricant. It’s more solvent than lubricant. It will wash any oil away and leave a solvent that will dry into a hard varnish. I have worked in more than one professional shop that won’t even allow it in the building. A couple of decades ago I worked as an electronic tech in a shop that had actually won a legal case against WD40 that forced them to pay a settlement for damages and also change their packaging. As a motorcycle mechanic I have also seen many throttle cable/brake cable seized solid in the housing because someone tried to use WD40 to lube a cable.

Anyway, who needs scissors in a pocket knive? At home or at the office I use real scissors, not the flimsy scissors of a pocket knife. Oh well, maybe for occaisional grooming. When travelling by car or train, or in the outdoors a small scissors can be handy, for example to cut a first aid bandage. Otherwise I have no need for pocket knife scissors. I know, these are my personal experiences with the subject.

EMZ eben, für Maniküre, zum Öffnen von Verpackungen, Basteleien… ich nutze die sogar sehr oft, auch im Büro

Doesn't that apply to all the tools on a SAK? I, like Michael, use the scissors on my Victorinox all the time. I barely use proper scissors. They almost serve a different function.

EMZ Yes I know. Developed by contractors for NASA to coat the outside of rockets to stop the condensation forming after fuelling that would then freeze and fall off as ice chunks during launch.
I have used it several times to remove water from the ignition system (distributor cap, etc) after submerging an engine in water.

Ich sehe das genauso. Die Schere ist ein ganz wichtiges Werkzeug an einem Taschenmesser. Als EDC habe ich nur Modelle mit Schere dabei.
