My wife picked up a parcel from the post office for me today. This is a knife that was really a bit of a long shot. I have actually been looking for one for quite a while.
Michel Jordi “Spirit of Switzerland” Limited Edition Ethno Knife
I don’t think a lot of people know about these knives. There is also a Special Edition version, and I already have one of those. It was after getting the Special Edition that I became interested in finding the Limited Edition.
They were made in both Spartan and Climber versions, and in three different colours: red, blue and black. The Special Edition was available with or without the matching case. I have also seen one that came with a matching watch, so that may have been another option.
The Special Edition has etching on the blade, special scales with floral artwork on one side and a medallion on the other. The knife is finished off with a gold plated keyring and gold plated corkscrew.
The Limited Edition has the same blade etching as the Special Edition, with an additional line of text saying “Limited Edition.” The scales are the same, as is the gold plated keyring. The big difference is the corkscrew, which is solid 18k gold. It also has been individually numbered, xxx/999, stamped on the liner behind the corkscrew.
The Limited Edition comes with the embroidered case and a very nice wooden presentation case. It also includes an individually numbered and signed certificate. I find it funny that the certificate is actually so large that it doesn’t fit in the presentation case. I wonder how often those certificates end up getting misplaced.
And for the cherry on top, this particular knife has what I would consider a very desirable and collectible number.
I was only able to get this knife with the help of a community member, and I really want to thank them for helping me track one down. It is always great when someone in the community helps make a long shot like this possible.
