Like always I have an opinion on everything. My personality type means I’m always thinking about everything and I can’t turn it off so buckle up! I really don’t think my voice or opinion is particularly important or of anymore value than anyone else’s. I hope it doesn’t appear to be the opposite to anyone. Maybe I just overshare?
I personally like it here quite a lot. I particularly like the opportunity to communicate with people from other regions and make some friends there too. It’s hard for me to nail it down precisely but culturally I can relate more with my friends in the EU and UK than the loud and brash neighbour I have. This permeates all other parts of my world and I often struggle to get away from the intolerance and ignorance. It’s definitely part of the reason I basically only use Facebook for marketplace. People here actually recycle and actually understand why it’s important for example. People who go hiking without a handgun because they truly understand the likelihood that the Taliban, Mexican Cartels, Sasquatch or Aliens are going to obduct them is actually really quite small so you don’t really need “protection”. If I never see another reference to “Tactical” or “Extreme” in marketing for everything from socks to sunglasses that would be great.
There’s a certain amount of intelligence I see from the users here that makes me want to support this platform. Now that is particularly due to how everyone communicates but also in the well thought out post I see. That makes me want to support those posts by giving them a like even when I don’t have anything to share myself. I sometimes share thoughts or posts just to engage with other users and keep the forum active and not lurk in the background. I’m not a particularly outgoing person but I have legitimately learned something interesting or helpful everyday I’ve visited this forum from its users. I know it’s early but I really see an air of inclusion and support here. That is a big strength. I’m not really big on the concept of “Super Users” and even the ranking system thing makes me a little uncomfortable. I think it’s often something that might make a new user feel intimidated or that their voice isn’t important or that someone else’s voice is more important. It’s probably great if you’re in that club but not if you’re not. Just my thoughts
The translation ai program used here is really quite good. I didn’t even know that technology was a thing. I know that I speak with a lot of slang and strange references but I think the other users understand what I’m saying most of the time.
I only use the “Recent Discussions” list on the main page. I think this is because of how this is forum is layed out. The category titles did also puzzle me. I now realize that Victorinox is using these titles in their marketing and that was the reason for them. Outdoors & Sports for example. Sports has me thinking of hockey, basketball or tennis and outdoors is just the opposite to indoors in the context of sports. I understand now what the meaning is but to someone who doesn’t realize this is all translated from a different language it’s potentially puzzling. I thought this was an English forum and had no idea it was translated initially. I thought Sports was an odd category name for a knife company and maybe a little scary. Wilderness and Adventure would be a better title in my language.
Sometimes the list in recent discussions appears to show the user who created the thread and other times it shows the last person who replied to that thread. I haven’t figured out why it changes. I would prefer to see the last person who replied to the thread all the time. The fact that all the reply’s are listed on one long page makes it hard to read back. I think it’s possibly the lag from the AI translator program trying to catch up. I may just want to get to the end or to where I last read to. Page numbers may not look as nice but I think it’s more user friendly. Some of these topics are likely going to be around a while but the current format may make it difficult for a new user to navigate.
Just some of my thoughts. I will do my best to support this forum and its users.
