Elsinox I do put together my own custom/modified knives. I would still take advantage of this if I would be in the area as a tourist. Probably even a main destination event. When I make the kind of knives I want to have it’s not something you’d normally see. They often require me to buy several brand new knives just to get the tools. So this wouldn’t really cost more than if I was to do it myself and I’d also have the warranty. I would expect anyway. Now I would only do this if all the current tools were an option.
I have a custom/modified knife next to me now for example that I call a Serrated Cyber Yeoman Lite. That’s several brand new knives I had to buy to make it. Then add new plus scales and those scale tools too.
Serrated Blade - Weekender
Combo tool and key ring spacer - Compact, Waiter or Bantam
CyberTool bit driver - one of the CyberTool knives.
CyberTools less common Hex (Allen) head bits instead of the standard Torx bits. Very hard to find here and they end up being about $10 CDN each or I can get them from a Swiss Champ XXL
Magnifying glass - Explorer or something else like a Champion
Flashlight module - Spartan Lite, Huntsman Lite, etc
Parcel hook with the nail file - Compact or Swiss Camp XXL
That’s a lot of knives to make just one Custom/Modified knife. There are other options too. You could buy a Swiss Champ XXL and only need to also buy a Bantam or Waiter to get the key ring spacer. When you don’t use the opening layer you don’t get the spring with the key ring anchor loop. If anyone was wondering.
Remember when you see the individual parts listed on Etsy or EBay you don’t get the correct corresponding liners that you will need for the tools to work. They can be expensive too depending on how rare the tool is to find. Flashlight and CyberTool liners are not very common. I never do that anyway because it ends up being the cost of a new knife a lot of the time.
So yes I think it could be a potentially great value to me but only if I could build a knife like that for example. I’d actually build something different than this though. Even if you told them the tools you wanted a head of time.
