The compass would be fine but of limited use in my opinion. Any compass without a map will do little more than keep you from walking in circles.
I wouldn’t rely on a cellphone for anything these days. One of these fascist world leaders starts the next world war all of this GPS stuff will get immediately switched off probably along with cell phone technology to follow. Basics skills like map and compass will suddenly become relevant again.
