I've had similar thoughts. For some reason I have a mental block about ripping apart my Companion - I really don't know why I have an emotional attachment to it. I've already changed the scales on it (twice), but I can't get myself to swap the blade for a serrated one…
I'm not trying to add to your dilemma, but I suggest looking at this way: Why blow it up when it is already perfect? Yes, the package opener is awesome, it really is, but that 93mm awl is an awesome package opener itself. Before I got my Companion, I used the 93mm awl for box duty and was very happy with it, but now I can open boxes and work on my nails that always seem to chip when I play with too many SAKs.
And I know what you mean by heavy. I have a Cybertool M with brass scales and copper liners - beautiful desk knife but it would be a pants dropper as an EDC. 😁
They do look nice though.
