Only one knife in the wilderness…
Well, it also depends on the type of wilderness, and the weather. Is it a warm climate jungle, or a cold, rainy forest? Or maybe even a concrete jungle in which you have to spend some time.
First of all: I'm not a survivalist, nor an outdoor type. I have little military experience and after that an urban law enforcement back ground (+40 years…). Though defenitely not a real prepper, I do prepare for the worst and hope for the best while travelling. Since I was given a small knife at my 11th birthday, I EDC always (as in ALWAYS) some kind of (pocket) knife with me. Be it for example a SwissCard, a 58mm SD, a Huntsman or a Spirit, depending on my mood and/or availability and purpose. For serious businesses I can rely on a Mission Knives MPS-TI.
For pure survival purposes I would chose my Wenger Master or my Victorinox Tradesman. Both have a lockable blade and small pliers. As a young boy I once carved some wood, and while pulling the blade out of the wood, the blade got stuck in it. Pulling in the wrong direction made the blade to fold while my fingers were in its way. So I cut myself severely. That's why I prefer the lock blade of the Wenger Master/ Vic Tradesman. Pliers are very useful when your fingers are cold, numb, or even injured and you need some extra force to grab or pull out some things.
Unfortunately both models are no longer in production! ☹
