A compact 91mm without any Back Tools?

Ich hab mir vor kurzem ein Compact gekauft und es ist echt ein praktisches EDC für die Hosentasche. Ich muss immer daran denken, wie viel kompakter es ohne die Werkzeuge auf der Rückseite wäre. Vor allem der Korkenzieher macht das kompakte Design kaputt. Wärt ihr an ein paar neuen 91-mm-Modellen ohne Werkzeuge auf der Rückseite interessiert? Ja, ich weiß natürlich, dass es die 93-mm-Alox-Messer gibt, aber die haben nicht den praktischen Zahnstocher, die Pinzette und den Stift.

I bought a Compact a little while ago and it’s a really nice pocket friendly EDC. I can’t help thinking how much more compact it would be without the back tools. The corkscrew in particular really spoils the compactness.

Would you like to see a few new model 91mm’s without back tools. Yes, I obviously know we have the 93mm Alox knives but they don’t have the very handy Toothpick, Tweezers and Pen.

Plus-Schalen lassen sich übrigens an anderen Messern nachrüsten. Empfehlung: Die alte Schale selbst zu hause störungsfrei abmachen, wenn du die neue im Store anbringen lassen willst. Stores machen beim Schalen-Wechsel die alte prinzipiell kaputt.

As usual, I agree with Michael. The SAK is a multi-tool… the more tools, the better. Especially when you're not even adding another layer.

The Compact is a great knife. Personally, I don't need it to be a couple of millimeters thinner if it means losing the corkscrew and the mini screwdriver in it. I actually don't EDC alox models mostly because they lack the back tools. I have the tweezers and pen on my Manager, which is always with me, and I can live without the toothpick if I have to, but I need those back tools. ☺️

The issue for me, and quite a number of others that have mentioned it, is that apart from the corkscrew and the Hook, all the other tools like the Chisel, Awl and Philips driver etc would be very much easier to use in the main section with the other tools. It seems these tools have been added without any consideration whatsoever about how they’re actually used? Surely you agree?

WilliamR ne, eher nicht. Gerade das 91-er Ranger ist das kompaktes 91-er mit relativ vielen Tools, dank den Backtools. Und es funktionieren ja alle… für Bastelarbeiten nutze ich den Meißel sogar

Wird es etwas gröber, dann das Swisstool, was darüber hinaus gehen sollte, dann mit entsprechenden Werkzeug

WilliamR I agree that some back tools are not ideally placed, but that was not the argument. You said the Compact would be more compact without the corkscrew (fact), and I said the 2mm reduction in size was not worth the loss of that tool (and the accessory that fits in it) in particular.

As for the other back tools, I just said they don't add to the size of the knife really, so they're there if you need them, and they're easy to ignore if you don't.

MichaelRothenpieler I love the Ranger. It's one of my EDC knives (with black and white plus scales).

And I've used the chisel as well.

In any case, I love knowing that those tools are there for when I need them, even if it's once a year.

I mostly carry my Cybertool M though. When it came out, it replaced my Explorer.

Ich denke doch das man in der Produktpalette von Victorinox das passende Messer finden kann.Eine Umstellungen in der Ausstattung der Messer wird es nur geben wenn Victorinox gezielt danach fragt und eine Richtung dafür vorgibt. Weil dann sind Machbarkeit, Wirtschaftlichkeit, Marktforschung,Herstellungskosten etc abgeklärt sind und Wünsche und Abstimmungen können in die richtige Richtung laufen.Da muss man abwarten ob Victorinox sich an die Community wenden will oder wird.

Fragt man User oder Sammler nach einem neuen Messer,hast du bei 10 Personen mindestens. 15 Antworten und Ideen.

One of my favourite SAKs is a 74mm Executive (no back tools). Sadly Victorinox discontinued it. Apparently it was too expensive to manufacture?

WilliamR You can't really say the Executive had no back tools as it has no back. Plus it has tools on both sides.

I like the size, but not necessarily the toolset. I agree though that it's a shame we have less size options now.

I would welcome a 91mm knife without any back tools. After carrying Alox knives and also 84mm knives without a corkscrew I've developed an appreciation for knives without back tools. Even if it is only 2mm that's still noticeable. Remember that a knife layer is 3mm and actually the saw is a little less than 3mm and that's including the tool and a liner.

All of the tools on any multi tool are a compromise but that's the point. You don't need to carry a bunch of individual dedicated tools just on the off chance you may need one. Having said that some of the back tools are really quite difficult to use. Their position in the centre of the knife almost aids in the tool closing when you're trying to use them. Having said that I don't really care. I know what to expect when I'm using them.

I would gladly buy a 91mm without back tools just because it something new and different.
