I’ve carried the Companion Slim for a few days now. I’ve only actually used it a handful of times though. This isn’t typical for me as I usually get a lot of packages to open everyday. It’s still a winner but I do have to say I’ve noticed the weight in the bottom of my pocket. I am really missing the key ring.
I’ve been pairing the Companion Slim Alox with the Sentinel Clip. I thought that I’d give a 111mm knife a try as an EDC. I know this 111mm size has a lot of fans but I am clearly not one of them. It feels too small in my hand if I hold it like it’s grip shape would suggest. There is also the liner lock that ruins the handle contouring in your hand. Maybe one of the older slide locking design might be better? But it’s just the general blade shape I really don’t like. The tip is also less than ideal. I had a large cedar sliver down the outside on my little finger nail yesterday. I couldn’t dig it out with the blade. It worked about as well as a plastic knife for that. There is just no usable tip on this blade. I dug away with the corner of the tweezers and made a real mess of it. I ended up using a sheet metal screw to dig it out in the end. Not something I’d share a photo of.
I’m on team RangerGrip not team 111mm.
Today I was carrying the Companion Slim Alox paired with the 84mm Electrician. A knife I really like. It’s much lighter than an Alox Electrician but I do love the Electrician blade. It doesn’t have a key ring either so that does suck. Now I’m carrying two knives without key rings so no pocket hooks to hang them from. Both of these two knives are now sitting in the bottom of my pocket which I really don’t like.
I’m getting close to just going back to my original NY Companion as an EDC. But the Slim has given me options though. I do like it.
Wouldn’t a Cadet or 84mm Companion Slim be great? I’m still hoping for those 84mm scissors to return one day.
