I’ve made a couple of different bladeless knives recently. Two of them.
I’m sure the definition of a “bladeless knife” probably varies a lot depending on the agency and/or local laws.
I completely understand the reasoning behind it. While it’s not a big deal in my world personally now in the past I’ve worked as a service technician in both schools and hospitals. So I’ve thought about it recently. They wouldn’t be restricting my tools for the job I’m sure but it doesn’t reflect well on your company if you’re the guy who ignores the rules by carrying a personal knife when they call you.
I made one bladeless knife for a friend of mine recently. He once told me the only tool he found useful on a Swiss Army Knife was the wood saw. Partly because I said I didn’t like to have the wood saw layer on my knives. Well for his birthday I made him a custom knife with just 4 wood saws on it and that was it. I was originally going to put more on it but thought 4 would be enough to make it funny. I forgot to take a picture of it unfortunately.
Now a wood saw is one of those tools I think might cause problems along with an awl and possibly even a fish scaler. What does everyone think the tools to avoid on a bladeless knife are aside from knife blades obviously?
I recently made a custom knife that I called the Millwright. It had all the tools I felt I’d want on a edc in my trade as a Millwright. I have just modified it today so the Millwright is now bladeless. I removed the large blade as well as the electrician blade and awl. It still has the metal file but I think that might be ok. I wouldn’t call it a metal saw just in case the word “saw” is on a list somewhere. It’s a 4 layer knife with some good tool options on it, I think anyway. I opted for the universal wrench over the magnifying glass or flash light. It’s just a little less of a toy. The corkscrew holds the eyeglass screwdriver that is handy for flipping very small dip switches on control boards.
I also have a Jetsetter I think it’s called and maybe one other bladeless knife that I can remember right now.
If you were to design a bladeless knife what would it look like? What tools would you use that are available on current Victorinox knives now?
