You are right, mocked is too harsh, but I didn't take it like that.
It was a light teasing and I love it.
And now to the police escort, it wasn't as dramatic as it sounds but it did make it memorable.
So, after getting married at the beach, we had lunch with our family and then went to have a nice little boat tour off Key Biscayne. It was a beautiful cruise for the first 1.5 hours and all was well until the guy with the jet ski rental showed up and took out a the kids for a spin. At that time the Miami Dade Water Police showed up and noticed that he didn't have something he should have displayed and (to them) he didn't take the safety briefing too seriously. So they started digging into the paperwork of both the jet ski guy and our boat charter. After about 1.5 hours of checking and calling and verifying it became clear that our outing was done for and I said, let's go back. Since the police wanted to check a few things with the owner of the boat, they told the Capitan that they would accompany us to the dock and meet the owner there. So we had a police escort as we motored back. Somewhere along the way we picked up another police boat. I am sure we were quite the sight: 13 people laughing, drinking and being silly while two police boats are following us with their (blue) lights on. As we were only going 7 knots it felt like the OJ Simpson chase on the water. 🤣
While this wasn't what we had planned, the cops were very respectful and friendly. They wanted to make sure that we as tourist were safe and that all was on the up and up. We ended up with a full refund for all, so in the end we got a 1.5 hour cruise, a 1.5 hour education in charter boat regulations and a police escort all for free. 😁
