Easy question, difficult answer…
I mainly collect DAK's (Dutch Army Knives). Half of them are from Victorinox. it took me 20 years to gather my incomplete collection. Some items are one of a kind, never to be find again. Statistically I will be very dead in 15 years, so starting all over is useles. It's funny: We spend years and years to bring all the stuff into our houses, but there will be a day everything -including ourselves- will be carried out of the house!!
Anyway, my first knife would be the Victorinox 1897 Replica 0.1897.J22, Limited Edition. It's still available and although not cheap, still affordable. After the Replica I would go on to collect the different military Swiss SAK's. Most originals are available and affordable, and after a few dozen types or models you have a great collection.
