EGiese The idea of a code of conduct for this community seems a bit far-fetched to me. It may be acceptable to agree on certain basic values, as a kind of lowest common denominator for all members of this community, but do we really need an additional "voluntary set of rules"? This set of rules already exists – at least for me – and is called normal interpersonal behaviour, nothing more and nothing less. To be honest, I am a member of this community because I simply enjoy the wonderful products made by this traditional company and I think it's great that there are obviously a lot of other people across the globe who share this joy. That's what unites us.
I can totally understand the passionate collectors among us who find the inappropriate handling of exclusive community knives a thorn in their side, but Michael is right: individuals can do what they want with their personal property. Whether I think that's a good thing or not is irrelevant.
My conclusion: I don't think we should make this too difficult for ourselves. Discussions are necessary and should take place, but rules are only needed when things get below the belt. That's what the administrators are there for, appointed by the institution that pays for this site. And at least for now, I only see reasonable, respectful contributions to the discussion, apart from a few lol-fails, but those may be due to a momentary mood.
Just my two cents 😊
Yes, I totally agree. So add my two cents to that also. Updated Total= 4cents
I have a very high standard for fairness in all things but that is only equaled by my distain for authority.
I am just a passenger here. I trust Victorinox to decide how they want to manage their community. I will help by occasionally contributing to the conversation in what I perceive to be a constructive, courteous way until the day it’s not for me, if that day even ever comes.
I think we should all have a voice here so we can share our experiences. I would like to think of this as an open and welcoming community for everyone motivated enough to find it. We aren’t wanting to be restrictive and elitist are we? I may be wrong but I don’t think that’s what Victorinox had in mind either. I have no problem if anyone, myself included gets hit with the Ban hammer for continually being disrespectful or disruptive just for their own entertainment.
